Windrush 75 needed a celebration that felt local, alive and commemorative. With Lambeth Council, The Brixton Project brought the anniversary into the heart of Brixton with Procession and a wider programme across the borough. I community managed on the ground, ran the socials and created engaging content across Windrush 2023 and Windrush 2024.
Problem
Commemoration can feel distant if it lives only on a stage or a press release. The task was to turn awareness into shared pride and participation, connecting institutions with residents who do not usually engage with cultural programming.
Solution
We took it to the streets and into everyday spaces. Procession moved through Brixton to Windrush Square with schools, artists and community groups; the Windrush Community Fund powered neighbourhood events; LambethWindrush.com gathered listings, resources and community stories. I built and managed community relationships, ran day-to-day social channels and produced content that amplified partners, creators and moments from both years. The result was a living, borough-wide commemoration that celebrated Caribbean heritage, reached new audiences and created earned media across news channels including BBC news.
